The Answer is NO!
« on: January 24, 2010, 08:17:15 AM »
Tell me,
Has God ever told you no?
Have you ever wrestled with God over anything he has asked you or called you to do?
Have you ever told God no?
How did God deal with you about these things?

I have fallen into all of these at some point or another.
I was listening to another preacher preaching about this and it got me thinking about it.
I just thought it would make an interesting topic to discuss.

I don't hope to disagree, but here's something that you may want to find out.. and I believe in this Pastor because I have received my miracle through his teachings...

Responding to that video, He makes some good points.
  • God's promises and righteousness are only attributed to us through Jesus Christ
  • We cannot achieve salvation or righteousness through works, it is done through God
I didn't understand all the Tagalog, so I may have missed something-- but it seems like he was preaching what is known as a 'prosperity gospel' which is basically a gospel that focuses heavily on victory, on God's promises, on what Christians can expect to get, to receive from God-- but does not talk very much about sin, about the cost of discipleship, and about how your own life has to change in response to what God has done for you.  It's not the whole gospel, it's only part of it.  He might explain the other part of his teaching in other sermons, but if this is all there is to to his teaching, then I would have to say that it is incomplete, and not the real gospel of Christ.

The Bible is clear that God says no, but also that He says no, not to personally offend us, or to hurt us for his own pleasure, but because He desires the most for us, and what we desire is not good for us.  Jeremiah tells us the Lord has plans to prosper us, to help not to hurt us, the Psalmist tells us that The Lord sets a table for us in the presence of our enemies and our cup (in that situation!) overflows.

And the rest of the questions up here have to do with our rejection of what God wants...

I think that God often tells me no, and I often ignore Him, or do what I want to do.  Sometimes it's my own willfulness, and in other times, it's just my ignorance.  When it's my ignorance, God ofte shows me how I am wrong.

About Christian Life is always about receiving, well, i have to agree that it sounds like a Prosperity Teaching.

Sometimes some Christians think God is like a Genie that grants wish.

He knows us - individually- so much and He may answer YES, NO and WAIT depending on His will for us.

However, one promise God can always keep is that He will keep us from all harm though.  8)

Psalm 121:7  " The LORD will keep you from all harm—    he will watch over your life;"
