Emily, Otanjoubi Omedetou!

Hm, what to say...  I think this year's been a pretty rough year for you-- you had a lot of trials and sufferings and I think you learned a lot about people, about long-suffering and about relying on God alone for your spiritual growth.  But through it all, you persevered.  You had a thousand (I'd almost bet that there were that many opportunities) chances to give up the faith.  You could've gone back to the world.  You could've just thrown in the towel, turned your back on the people who hurt you, despite calling themselves 'Christians', you could've ripped some reputations apart in vengeance.  But instead, you took the abuse, you took the blame and you calmly turned the other cheek, a lot like Jesus.

I can't do that.  I'd quickly run a few scenarios, do damage control, then expose the truth and make sure everyone knew exactly what happened-- or at least a few key someones.  It's hard for me to overlook intentional offenses the way you do, and when you do, it makes me marvel sometimes at how forgiving you can be.  Sometimes you wonder how I can simply forgive, how I can listen and nod my head, accepting that I may have been lied to, and deceived.  But when I think about it now, I don't understand how I could do anything else.  I've seen you grow from a mustard seed of a Christian into a sapling that is planted by streams of living water.  I've seen you weather storms and dry seasons.  You've had to live in some of the most inhospitable environments for a Christian in this modern day and age in America.  I've seen you fight for your faith more in your first few years of faith than many do in their first decade!  And yet you persevere.  And perseverance produces character, and character, hope.  You've got perseverence in spades, and a good deal of character as well.  =/ But I think the hope is still coming.  Hope!  Hope, have faith, because faith is simply hoping in what is unseen.

For your Birthday Em, although it's 2:33am now and it's already past, I wish you peace.  Not the peace of the silent tv with the computer mouse clicking in a dark room with the halogen glare of the monitor lighting the desk, or the strained peace of a house that was just minutes ago, torn by division, anger and frustration, but the peace that surpasses understanding.

Hm, I should've put this in a Birthday Card or something,
--Chris

Happy Birthday Chette and belated Happy Birthday Philip!! God bless you both more and more :)
Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light. Because I have sinned against him, I will bear the LORD's wrath, until he pleads my case and establishes my right. He will bring me out into the light. - Micah 7: 8-9
